Why is it still so hard to find good trans underwear in Europe?

Whether you live in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, or anywhere else in Europe, finding beautiful, comfortable tucking underwear online is still surprisingly hard. This article is about why — and what I was looking for instead.

I have lost count of how many times I found a pair of tucking underwear online, thought, finally, this might be it, and then watched the price climb. First the underwear. Then international shipping. Then customs. Then handling fees. Suddenly, one pair cost far more than I had planned — and I still had no idea whether the size would actually be right.

What this article covers: why buying trans underwear in Europe is still difficult, what really matters when choosing tucking underwear, what to check before you buy, and what we changed when we built the Essential Tucking Thong.

Buying trans underwear in Europe felt like placing a bet

Would it feel secure enough? Would it dig in after an hour? Would it sit properly under my clothes? Would it look like lingerie, or like something purely functional? And if the fit was wrong, would I even be able to return it?

Buying trans underwear in Europe often felt less like shopping and more like placing a very expensive bet.

I was not only looking for something that flattened

A smoother front mattered to me. Of course it did. But flatness was never the whole story.

I wanted something I could wear through a normal day: sitting, walking, working, travelling, going out, getting dressed and getting on with my life. I did not want underwear that looked good for twenty minutes and then became the only thing I could think about.

Some products felt secure but painfully tight. Others were soft, but not supportive enough. Some looked clinical. Others felt more like performance equipment than lingerie I would actually choose to wear.

So often, the expectation seemed to be that discomfort was simply the price of a flatter silhouette. I never accepted that.

I wanted support, but I also wanted softness. I wanted function, but I still wanted to feel feminine. I wanted something that helped my clothes sit the way I wanted without making me constantly check, adjust, or think about what was underneath.

I wanted to feel held, then forget about it.

The fit problem was just as frustrating

Sizing was rarely straightforward. Every brand seemed to measure differently. Some focused on waist, others on hips. Some offered little explanation of how the garment should actually feel. And because intimate products often come with strict hygiene conditions, choosing the wrong size could quickly become an expensive mistake.

Then there was the waiting. The tracking updates. The customs notice. The uncertainty. The moment the package finally arrived — and the hope that this one would fit. Sometimes it did. Sometimes it really did not.

When you are buying something connected to comfort, confidence and how you feel in your clothes, that disappointment hits differently.

What I was actually looking for

What I wanted sounded simple: comfortable tucking underwear for everyday wear.

Something soft enough to wear against the skin, but supportive enough to create a smoother front. Something feminine, beautifully made and easy to wear under the clothes I already loved.

I wanted clear sizing. Honest product information. Real product photography. A return policy I could understand. I wanted to know what the fabric was made from, where the garment came from, and whether it had actually been designed with trans women in mind.

That combination — comfort, support, femininity, premium quality and European production — was much harder to find than it should have been. So eventually, we stopped searching for it and started building it.

Why Europe mattered to us

Creating Vicky Baey in Europe was not only about geography. It was about being closer to the people making the product. Knowing who developed it. Understanding where the fabric came from. Building real relationships with our designer and atelier.

The Essential Tucking Thong is designed in Belgium and handmade in Portugal, in soft recycled Italian nylon. It was developed with a lingerie specialist and tested with 20 trans women.

In a time when so many products pass through long, anonymous supply chains, knowing where something comes from — and why each choice was made — feels more important than ever. For customers in Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany and the rest of Europe, buying from a European brand often also means clearer delivery, fewer surprises with import fees, and shorter lines of communication.

What I would check before buying tucking underwear online

I would always look for:

• a clear size guide; • honest information about support; • fabric composition; • front, back and detail photography; • shipping origin; • hygiene return conditions; • discreet packaging; • and signs that the product was designed with trans women, not simply marketed to us.

Good tucking underwear should feel secure, but it should not feel like something you have to endure. It should help you get dressed and move on with your day.

That is what I had been looking for. And that is why we created Vicky Baey.
